Tasting Notes

A gentle citrus and herbaceous, spicy nose. The palate is smooth and creamy. An earthy, herbal flavor appears with a slight sweetness. A long, smooth finish with a slight peppery warmth that lingers.

Suggested Serves
  • Packs a tasty punch in a Gin & Tonic. Use a cinnamon stick and an orange slice for garnish.

  • Try mixing 3 parts Tanglin Orchid Gin with 2 parts Cocchi Americano Rosa and 1 part for a bartender favorite: The Bitter Negroni

Production Notes

The eleven botanicals in Tanglin Gin include those traditionally used in gin, like juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, and orris root. But from there the spirit takes an original turn with the use of vanilla pods and amchoor, a fruity spice powder made from dried unripe green mango.

Also present are the dried stems of an orchid variety known as shihu, an herb commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine and understood to have great health benefits. Whole organic oranges grown in the distiller's family home in Victoria, Australia provide an additional citrusy note.

The gin is distilled in a pot and still column, and as a final step, distilled water is used to reduce it to its final 42% ABV.

Developed by four expats living in Singapore, the Tanglin team worked with the Singapore government for three years in order to establish the country's first gin distillery.

The desire was to create a gin that reflected the essence of Singapore, a city-state known for its tremendous diversity, with people from many different cultures living together on the island.

The Tanglin area of Singapore was formerly the native jungle habitat of the white tiger. The land was cleared in the 19th century to make way for spice plantations, as Singapore became an essential trading port. Today this area is home to the country's UNESCO World Heritage-listed botanic gardens, where the main entrance is known as the Tanglin Gate. The shape of the gate is reflected in the bottle's label.

Tanglin Gin has fast become the gin of choice at top bars and restaurants across the island, and has even inspired a bit of a local gin craze in Southeast Asia.
