      Detailed Description

This wine boasts a profound minerality (flint). Age brings in notes of honey or ripe pear. Rounded and often opulent, its attack is instantaneous. On the palate, fleshiness is matched by mellowness, and both are equally persistent.

        Producer Information

At the end of the 19th century, in the heart of Burgundy in Savigny lès Beaune, a passionate and idealistic winemaker, Léonce Bocquet (who at the same time was the owner of the famous Château du Clos de Vougeot and part of its vines ) had these buildings built for the vinification and aging of wines from its various estates. For this, he called on Charles SUISSE, a great architect of the time and professor at the school of fine arts, who carried out an original and massive construction. These buildings, with unusual colors for the region, were recognized by all as the most beautiful and majestic monument of the Burgundian wine world. The building was completed in 8 years but undeniably left its unique mark on the face of the Côte de Beaune. After the death of Léonce Boquet, the house changed ownership several times, until the Swiss family group Schenk, one of the European leaders in the wine trade and present in most of the world's vineyards, bought it in 1964. It was then that the Henri de Villamont house was born. Between the purchase of the company in 1964 and 2004, the Schenk group developed the activity of its Burgundian subsidiary to achieve a production of more than 20 million bottles. In 2004, tired of this race for volume and aware of the need to restore this area to its place as a jewel within the group, the Schenk family decided to separate from its mass trading activity. This decision will very quickly be followed by a policy of significant technical investments: the vat room has been completely redesigned and renovated, in order to provide efficient and optimal oenological tools. This new quality approach also leads to the recruitment of a new director and winemaker: Pierre Jhean. Still in charge of the smooth running of the company today, he holds the position of director AND winemaker. This “and” takes on its full meaning when we look at the origins of this winemaker. Pierre is an oenologist by training, originally from Meursault where his family operates an estate. It is therefore quite natural that his technical background influenced the evolution of the house! All these commercial, technical and qualitative changes resulted in a very significant reduction in volumes: the Henri de Villamont house went from 20 million bottles to 350,000 bottles in a few years, coming only from greater Burgundy (from the Chablis coast to the Mâconnaise coast).
